PROTOCOL SEGMENTS

The Protocol Segment allows you to track animal usage on a protocol simply and easily over the life of the protocol. There is no need to use additional letters or digits in the protocol number to track the yearly usage.

The first step is to enter all the annual approved usages in the protocol segments. You may wish to do this for recent protocols only, rather than going back to try and do this for protocols that have been around for a number of years.

In the Animal Species information screen (tab 2), enter the dates of the first period and the animal counts for the first year. Next, click the SEGMENTS button. This brings up a browse of the defined segments; there should be none at this time. Next, press the SAVE button and call the first segment "01". Thus the first segment is saved; now press the ADD button and enter the dates and counts for the second period, which will be segment "02". Repeat for years 3 and higher.

When all of these segments are entered, press the EXIT button to return to the Species screen. This is where all updates from the Ordering module will take place. At this time, you will notice nothing different that in the past, when not using Segments.

Now, at the end of first period (segment) the operation changes. From the Species window, press the SEGMENTS button; in the browse, press the RENEW button. This will now SAVE the current segment information and LOAD the next segment into the Species window, thus making it the "current" segment.

Procedurally, you are asked for the Renewal Date (default is today); next you are asked for the current segment number (to be saved). The data for that segment is updated from the current segment. You may then EDIT the data; we recommend that you press the EDIT button even if you have no changes, and then the DONE button. This will recalculate the total usage numbers.

Next, you are asked for the number of the next segment to LOAD into the current Species data. Entering the number, like "02", you will find yourself still in the Segment browse, but you can see that the Species window now contains the data from the LOADed segment. Press the EXIT button to return to the Species window.

Repeat this process for each year (period) of the protocol until you have completed the final segment.

Note: There are LOAD and SAVE buttons on the Segment browse, which perform the same function. You can use these at any time.
